How Meridian versions its API - what counts as breaking, how deprecations are announced, and support windows.
Meridian's API versions are URL-prefixed (/v1, /v2). Within a version, the surface evolves by additive change only - breaking changes ship as a new major version.
We treat these as breaking and only ship them in a new major version:
PUT → PATCH semantics)Your integration must tolerate these:
type - branch on code, not message| Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Current | Receives all new features. Currently v2. |
| Maintenance | Security and bug fixes only, no new features. Currently v1. |
| Deprecated | Still served, but EOL date announced. Sunset warnings in docs + Sunset response header. |
| Retired | Endpoints return 410 Gone permanently. |
Sunset HTTP header on affected responses.Sunset headerDeprecated endpoints send:
Sunset: Sat, 31 Mar 2027 23:59:59 GMT
Deprecation: true
Link: <https://docs.meridian.dev/docs/guides/migrate-v1-v2>; rel="deprecation"Monitor for it - a response carrying Deprecation: true is telling you the endpoint has an announced EOL date.
The version switcher (top navbar) selects the doc set: v2 pages have clean URLs (/docs/api), older versions are prefixed (/docs/v1/api). Content differs - don't assume a v1 page documents v2 behavior.
