Definitions for every term used across the Meridian platform and documentation.
Terms used throughout Meridian's docs, API, and dashboard.
API key - Secret credential (mrnd_test_… / mrnd_live_…) sent as a Bearer token. Determines the environment a request runs in.
Audit log - Immutable record of administrative actions (key creation, role changes, exports) retained for compliance. See Audit logs.
Backoff - Increasing delay between retries; Meridian uses exponential backoff with jitter for both API retries and webhook redelivery.
Cursor - Opaque cur_ token marking a position in a list. Pass it back to get the next page - never construct one yourself.
Delivery - One attempt to POST an event payload to a webhook endpoint. At-least-once; see dlv_ objects in Webhooks.
Deprecated - Feature that still works but is no longer recommended; removal announced in the changelog ahead of time.
Endpoint - HTTPS URL registered to receive webhook deliveries (wh_ object).
Environment - test or live: two isolated copies of a project's runtime. Set by which key you send, not a flag. See Environments.
Event - Immutable record (evt_) of something that happened in a project. Source for webhooks and the activity feed. See Events.
Idempotency key - Client-generated token that makes a POST safe to retry: the same key + body returns the original response instead of duplicating. See Idempotent requests.
Live environment - The production environment. mrnd_live_ keys, real data, stricter quotas.
Metadata - Free-form key: value map on resources (projects, endpoints) for your own tagging - never used by Meridian.
Project - The unit of work: configuration, quotas, webhooks, and events. prj_ object; see Projects.
Previous attributes - In *.updated events, the field values before the change - used to diff without a second fetch.
Region - Geographic home of a project (us-east, eu-west, ap-south). Immutable at creation; controls residency and latency.
Request ID - req_ identifier returned in Meridian-Request-Id and error bodies - quote it to support for tracing.
Restricted key - API key with explicit resource:action scopes instead of full access. See Authentication.
Sequence - Monotonic integer per project on every event. Use it - not timestamps - for ordering.
Service account - Non-human workspace member for automation (kind: service_account), with its own roles.
Signature - HMAC-SHA256 over timestamp.body in the Meridian-Signature header - proves a delivery came from Meridian.
Soft delete / archive - Deletion that retains configuration for 30 days and allows restore. Projects archive; keys hard-delete.
Test environment - The sandbox: mrnd_test_ keys, fake data, separate webhooks and events from live.
Tolerance - Max age a signature timestamp may have (default 5 min) before verification rejects it as a replay.
Webhook - The delivery mechanism overall; a webhook endpoint is the registered URL receiving deliveries.
Workspace - Top-level organization: billing, members, and roles. Contains many projects.
